Groups:

Our Approach:

By using a neurologically-based form of play therapy

that focuses upon moment to moment internal

regulation, we teach girls how to move through

emotional intensity in healthy ways. When we are afraid,

our rational selves tend to shut down. That is why telling

a frightened or upset kid what to do often does not

work. Instead, as facilitators, we work with the amygdala,

or the part of our brain that tells us we are afraid. By

learning to express or release fear through movement,

visual observations, tactile sensations, words, sounds,

and the breath, girls learn new ways to calm themselves

and come back to their most powerful selves.

The Group Dynamic:

Being in a group teaches girls to learn how to be resources for each other and to regulate while in relationship with themselves and with others. As the school year begins, many girls face the challenge of how to be themselves while at school. This group can help model how to form healthy and supportive relationships with peers.

Each week we will focus on a different topic. Topics Include:

  • Connecting and Developing Healthy Relationships.

  • Generating an Awareness of Body and Feelings.

  • Clearly Expressing Emotions.

  • Feeling Powerful and Confident.

  • Working with Transitions, Rites of Passage, and Integration.

As girls become women, issues become more complex. Group topics will be centered around supporting and empowering young womens transition into adulthood.
